[Rimworld Beginner Tutorial] How to cook raw meat at campfire
When you first land on a RimWorld, one of the most immediate challenges you'll face is how to feed your colonists. The first step, assuming you have some raw meat, is to prepare it for cooking.
Step 1: Butchering
Before you can cook raw meat, you must first butcher the animal it came from. There are two primary ways to do this:
Butcher Spot: This is a free option available from the start. While it's quick to set up, it is less efficient.
Butcher Table: You can build this for a more efficient butchering process.
Step 2: Cooking at the Campfire
Once you have butchered the meat, you can cook it. In the early game, the campfire is your primary tool for this.
Select the campfire.
Navigate to the "Bills" tab.
Here, you can set a bill to cook the raw meat.
Beyond the Campfire: Upgrading Your Cooking Setup
While the campfire is essential for survival in the early stages, it's not a long-term solution. It has several downsides:
Slow Cooking Speed: Campfires are inefficient and take longer to cook food.
Resource Waste: They consume a significant amount of wood.
Risk of Food Poisoning: Cooking in an open, non-sterile environment increases the risk of your colonists getting food poisoning.
As soon as you can, prioritize building a proper cooking station inside a clean, enclosed kitchen. It's also highly recommended to build a freezer to store your ingredients and meals, which will prevent them from spoiling.
